Myofunctional Therapy
Is your mouth working against you?
Many people don't realize that the way we breathe, swallow and rest our tongue affects more than speech. Patterns involving the muscles of the face, mouth and throat can impact dental alignment, sleep quality/airway health, jaw pain, speech clarity, and overall facial development.
More to Say...
Oromyofunctional therapy is a specialized program of exercises and habit retraining that teaches the muscles of the face and mouth to work the way they were designed to. Through individualized sessions, you or your child will learn to rest the tongue correctly against the roof of the mouth, breathe through the nose rather than the mouth, swallow with proper muscle coordination and eliminate harmful oral habits such as thumb sucking.
We work closely with your dentist, orthodontist, ENT and other providers to support your full care team. No two mouths are alike. Your therapy plan is built around your specific needs, habits, and goals. Our methods are grounded in current research and best practices.
Who can benefit? Adults and children with chronic mouth breathing, tongue thrust, post tongue tie (frenectomy), orthodontic relapse or teeth shifting, sleep disordered breathing, jaw tension, and difficulty swallowing to name a few.
